As I watched the peaceful throngs of legal and illegal immigrants marching a couple of weeks ago I was impressed by two things, the first was that it was peaceful. That speaks volumes for the character of the people. The second, much to their chagrin, was that their multitudes re-enforced the problem … we have had a mass invasion, not a mass immigration. There is nothing like thousands of people in one place to make you understand their numbers. If you listened to their chant you understand their goal, political impact, and America’s problem … ‘today we march, tomorrow we vote’. They may have made a ‘fatal mistake’ … they are no longer asking to become Americans, they are demanding it … and Americans do not take kindly to threats.
To truly understand this emotional merry-go-round we must redefine the problem as social engineering. All poles indicate that the vast majority of the population feels that closing the borders must be addressed first. Yet the politicians and press are more concerned with the ire of the invaders, than the ire of the people. It is only in the context of the Brave New World of the Politically Correct (PC) combined with a two party system that such social upheaval would even be contemplated. The PC elite have determined that it is only fair that America levels the playing field with the rest of the continent by accepting this mass invasion. They feel Americans will be forced into their idea of ‘fairness’ because it will be all but impossible to ‘round them up and send them back’. Furthermore, it is only in a two party system where their numbers could intimidate politicians. You see, because there are enough potential voters to tip the scale in either direction, both parties are pandering to the illegals.
This came about because President Reagan granted amnesty for almost 4 million illegal immigrants two decades ago. Yet he never kept his promise to close the borders. This error had been compounded because he, in effect, rewarded people for breaking the law, thus, encouraged others to do the same. Since history has a way of repeating itself, make no mistake, if we accept any legislation with only a promise to close the borders, they will remain open and the problem will worsen. Keep in mind that this is all about votes and social engineering, not about what is best for America … and that each party clearly understands if they grant amnesty or favoritism to these illegals, the growing Hispanic block will potentially be theirs. Moreover, in all likelihood, those votes will control the outcome of national elections.
Since the tipping of the scale is only possible in a two party system I maintain that there has never been a better time in American History for the formation of a third party. It would be a Centrist party which would stress American interest and sovereignty over all else. But, that would not be possible in the short run. So what should America do? First, for the sake of both its sovereignty and security, close the borders, with a high tech or low tech fence, but close them immediately. As the porous border is plugged, the job market must be impacted. Therefore, any employer hiring illegal aliens will be fined $50,000/ illegal violation. If the jobs dry up, the throngs will return and comply with the reasonable request of returning to their native land and registering for temporary work visas. These parties would return without the additional burden of their families hosted on the American tax payer. Finally, how about those who have their families here and have been here for some time? If those men and women are not potential model citizens, they must be deported. If they have been here for over six years, and have added to the fabric of society, they may be given a choice to stay or return to their homeland. Those wishing to stay and become citizens must be assimilated into society. As a colleague suggests, and I agree: “What better way to assimilate them that via the military?” That would be a win-win solution. They would be required to honorably serve in the military for a period of 6 years (with a required English only program and courses in American History). During that service they would receive all military benefits. This would give them a chance to show us their love and intent for America by serving their new homeland and immediately aiding it in the War on Terror. At the end of that obligation they would not be given citizenship … they will have earned it.
