Still recovering from this flu and now Marilyn down with it … ugh … it’s been hard to stay motivated … you know to think of something that could stir me for an article this week. A good friend and loyal blogger John, sent me an article he knew would provoke … ‘resurrect’ me if you will. It first appeared in “Time Magazine†an article entitled: “Jesus: Tales from the Cryptâ€. According to Reuters this morning: “Titanic” director James Cameron presented on Monday what he said was evidence the tomb of Jesus had been uncovered, but some scholars dismissed it as a publicity stunt.â€Â Yaaa think? Â
But just for you skeptics and according to the same source: Professor L. Michael White, of the University of Texas, said he also doubted the claims were true. “This is trying to sell documentaries,” he said, adding a series of strict tests needed to be conducted before a bone box or inscription could be confirmed as ancient. “This is not archeologically sound, this is fanfare.”
Bottom line it will be another inane attack on Christianity based on pop science. But before I leave the topic I would like to posit the question: why it is so important for these Hollywood types to disprove Christianity? Would they dare assault Judaism or Islam in the same manner? I dare them to even speak of two archeological discoveries: The Old Testament Book of Isaiah in the Dead Sea Scrolls, especially Isaiah 53, or the content of the oldest Koran (Lebanon) and apply the same science to those documents. Why no documentaries on these specific findings?  Methinks it is not because of lack of interest; methinks it is because of lack of courage. Hey, for a change I think we should take my son Dan’s advise and not be the knee jerk Christians they expect … let’s ignore this hype and not give the devil his due.
But since this is the Season of Lent I thought it might be interesting to ponder a point I research in my soon to be released “Romans Baptistâ€.  I ask the question in chapter 11 what is more important to the Christian faith the resurrection or the crucifixion? When one compares the two major denominations … generically … Protestant and Catholic, one finds that the Reformed favor the resurrection and Rome the crucifixion. In my book I contend we are all saved by works … but the Reformed refuse to stress those works and Rome refuses to accept them. Moreover, neither side wish to stress perhaps the most important saint in the New Testament, the Saint I chose to call: ‘St. Thief’ (Chapter 1 of “Roman Baptistâ€). But perhaps what is most important for believers to remember during our Lenten season is that the very works which saved this retched soul were nailed to a Roman cross on Good Friday never again to be resurrected with the flesh on Easter Sunday.  Â
