Annie Oakley and the Second Amendment
I can still vividly remember that day in late August because we needed a babysitter and knew of nobody in the area. Marilyn’s sister Anne was about 12 or 13 by this time and she agreed to stay with us and watch Danny for the two or three hours necessary to sign those documents. That part of the equation worked out fine.
For some reason I had shown Anne where my .22 rifle was kept. But I never showed her the location of the clip and ammunition or how to load or use the gun. I told her we were in the country and it would take a while for the police if she ever needed help. Moreover, if she ever needed the gun that nobody ever checks to see of it is loaded. I assured her that the mere showing of it would protect her. She rolled her eyes as if I was over protective and ‘yeah-yeah’d’ me. I repeated, “Nobody ever knows if a gun is loaded and just pointing the thing at somebody will likely keep you and Danny safe.” By stressing Danny she finally tuned in. She assured me that everything would be fine and off we went to the signing.

Anne took Danny to the local convenience store for a walk and to buy him some goodies. She used the stroller. She saw a suspicious looking character that she thought followed her into the store. When she exited she noticed that he followed. She ran back to the apartment pushing that stroller with all of her strength. She said Danny never flinched. He thought the increase in speed was tantamount to an amusement park ride. She grabbed him out of the stroller with the man in close pursuit, ran into the apartment, slammed and double locked the door behind her. These were the days before 911. She screamed as she saw the door knob turn. He fled with her scream, but only to attempt entry via the kitchen window. Anne retreated to the bedroom, put Danny in the crib and retrieved my .22. The predator slid the window open and began an awkward entrance. Anne remembered what I had told her and met him right there, with one of his legs in the building and the other out. With that wonderful graduation gift in her arms she pointed it directly at his head. Bless her, she had the ‘courage’, knowing the gun was not loaded, to smile at him and say, “Run or die buddy.” And run he did.
When we got home we noticed Danny’s stroller outside. We ignored the pile of mail in our box and rushed in to make certain they were all right. After listening to her story we called the police. She described him to the officers and he was apprehended. This citizen was a convicted pedophile who was recently paroled for rape; so much for danger residing only in cities. Anne identified him and he went directly back to jail. That was the day that we became huge 2nd Amendment advocates as Sal’s gift saved the lives of our son and sister.
God Bless,
Dr B

From Grammy Sammie “Now that’s bureaucracy”
Part of rebuilding New Orleans caused residents often to be challenged with the task of tracing home titles back potentially hundreds of years. With a community rich with history stretching back over two centuries, houses have been passed along through generations of family, sometimes making it quite difficult to establish ownership. Here’s a great letter an attorney wrote to the FHA on behalf of a client:
You have to give it to this lawyer ……..
A New Orleans lawyer sought an FHA loan for a client. He was told the loan would be granted if he could prove satisfactory title to a parcel of property being offered as collateral.. The title to the property dated back to 1803, which took the lawyer three months to track down. After sending the information to the FHA, he received the following reply.
(Actual reply from FHA):
“Upon review of your letter adjoining your client’s loan application, we note that the request is supported by an Abstract of Title. While we compliment the able manner in which you have prepared and presented the application, we must point out that you have only cleared title to the proposed collateral property back to 1803. Before final approval can be accorded, it will be necessary to clear the title back to its origin.”
Annoyed, the lawyer responded as follows:
(Actual response):

“Your letter regarding title in Case No.189156 has been received. I note that you wish to have title extended further than the 206 years covered by the present application. I was unaware that any educated person in this country, particularly those working in the property area, would not know thatLouisiana was purchased by the United States from France, in 1803 the year of origin identified in our application. For the edification of uninformed FHA bureaucrats, the title to the land prior to U.S. ownership was obtained from France, which had acquired it by Right of Conquest from Spain. The land came into the possession of Spain by Right of Discovery made in the year 1492 by a sea captain named Christopher Columbus, who had been granted the privilege of seeking a new route to India by the Spanish monarch, Queen Isabella. The good Queen Isabella, being a pious woman and almost as careful about titles as the FHA, took the precaution of securing the blessing of the Pope before she sold her jewels to finance Columbus ‘s expedition…Now the Pope, as I’m sure you may know, is the emissary of Jesus Christ, the Son of God, and God, it is commonly accepted, created this world. Therefore, I believe it is safe to presume that God also made that part of the world called Louisiana. God, therefore, would be the owner of origin and His origins date back to before the beginning of time, the world as we know it, and the FHA. I hope you find God’s original claim to be satisfactory.
Now, may we have our ****** loan?”
The loan was immediately approved

Marvelous Marcel sends this:
While walking down the street one day a US senator is tragically hit by
a truck and dies.
His soul arrives in heaven and is met by St. Peter at the entrance.
“Welcome to heaven,” says St. Peter. “Before you settle in, it seems
there is a problem. We seldom see a high official around these parts,
you see, so we’re not sure what to do with you.”
“No problem, just let me in,” says the man.
“Well, I’d like to, but I have orders from higher up. What we’ll do
is have you spend one day in hell and one in heaven. Then you
can choose where to spend eternity.”
“Really, I’ve made up my mind. I want to be in n heaven,” says the
senator.
“I’m sorry, but we have our rules.”
And with that, St. Peter escorts him to the elevator and he goes
down, down, down to hell. The doors open and he finds himself
in the middle of a green golf course. In the distance is a clubhouse
and standing in front of it are all his friends and other politicians
who had worked with him.
Everyone is very happy and in evening dress. They run to greet him,
shake his hand, and reminisce about the good times they had while
getting rich at the expense of the people
They play a friendly game of golf and then dine on lobster, caviar
and champagne.
Also present is the devil, who really is a very friendly guy who
has a good time dancing and telling jokes. They are having such a
good time that before he realizes it, it is time to go
Everyone gives him a hearty farewell and waves while the elevator
rises…
The elevator goes up, up, up and the door reopens on heaven where St.
Peter
is waiting for him.

“Now it’s time to visit heaven.”
So, 24 hours pass with the senator joining a group of contented souls
moving from cloud to cloud, playing the harp and singing. They have a
good time and, before he realizes it, the 24 hours have gone by and St.
Peter returns.
“Well, then, you’ve spent a day in hell and another in heaven. Now
choose your eternity.”
The senator reflects for a minute, then he answers: “Well, I would
never have said it before, I mean heaven has been delightful, but
I think I would be better off in hell.”
So St. Peter escorts him to the elevator and he goes down, down,
down to hell.
Now the doors of the elevator open and he’s in the middle of a
barren land covered with waste and garbage.
He sees all his friends, dressed in rags, picking up the trash and
putting it in black bags as more trash falls from above.
The devil comes over to him and puts his arm around his shoulder.
“I don’t understand,” stammers the senator. “Yesterday I was here
and there was a golf course and clubhouse, and we ate lobster and
caviar, drank champagne, and danced and had a great time. Now
there’s just a wasteland full of garbage and my friends look miserable.
What happened?”
The devil looks at him, smiles and says, “Yesterday we were campaigning.. .
Today you voted.”

Billy Graham’s Prayer For Our Nation:
‘Heavenly Father, we come before you today to ask your forgiveness and to seek your direction and guidance. We know Your Word says, ‘Woe to those who call evil good,’ but that is exactly what we have done. We have lost our spiritual equilibrium and reversed our values. We have exploited the poor and called it the lottery. We have rewarded laziness and called it welfare.. We have killed our unborn and called it choice. We have shot abortionists and called it justifiable. We have neglected to discipline our children and called it building self esteem. We have abused power and called it politics.. We have coveted our neighbor’s possessions and called it ambition. We have polluted the air with profanity and pornography and called it freedom of expression. We have ridiculed the time-honored values of our forefathers and called it enlightenment. Search us, Oh God, and know our hearts today; cleanse us from every sin and Set us free. Amen!’
