Rural Dentist is the compilation of experiences starting with Dr. Bellavia’s undergraduate preparation through 1995 when his practice was what he considered a ‘Mom and Pop’ rural dental practice. He contends that there remain many such opportunities for small businesses and professionals in rural America.
Bellavia practiced in the historic Western New York village of Medina since his graduation from SUNY at Buffalo Dental School in 1968 until his disability forced him into retirement in 2001. During his distinguished career as a rural dentist he authored five clinical research articles and earned two dental patents. He was active in his church, community, and organized dentistry throughout. Bellavia has lectured internationally, been a part time faculty member of SUNY at Buffalo Dental School, as well as teaching at several universities and societies in the field of Temporal Mandibular Pain Dysfunction.
He accompanied the Medical Missions of Baylor University as their dentist on two different occasions to treat the rural poor in Mexico. Bellavia has earned several post doctoral degrees and awards including his Fellowship and Masters diplomas in the Academy of General Dentistry and a Fellowship in the Academy of Orthopedic
and Neuralgic Surgery, Dental Liaison.
This is Bellavia’s fourth published book as he continues to lecture, consult, and write since his disability. Dr. Bellavia has written opinion columns for several newspapers and posts his weekly columns on his website billbellavia.com.
